Hawaii Superferry Begins Inter-Island Service

The first vessel, christened the Alakai, can carry up to 866 passengers and 282 vehicles. The length of the trip from Honolulu to Kahului, Maui, is roughly three hours. Passengers can while away their time in dining areas downstairs, enjoy the great sea views from reclining chairs on the main deck, or watch TV. There's a children's play area and a gift shop. Snack bars will offer a range of refreshments.
All fares are one-way only and per passenger. Adult fares between Maui and Kauai are $62 in peak season, $52 off peak season; adult fares between Maui and Oahu are $72 in peak season, $62 off peak season. (May-August, November-December are peak seasons in the Islands.) Passengers traveling with their cars must pay an additonal fee ($59-$60).
Fares are discounted for seniors and children and advance purchase web fares are available on the Superferry website.
